The Trade license
is mandatory for all forms of business entities in Bangladesh. It is
issued by the local government of the respective areas. Each
business entity must obtain a business license from each local jurisdiction
where it operates. If
a business entity has more than one establishment, it must obtain a business
license from each local government. It is
issued for one year and must be renewed each year. The
commercial license attracts certain government fees, which generally depend on
the types of businesses.
Below, we describe the process of obtaining a business license for companies operating in the Dhaka City Corporation area. Other local governments have similar rules. We advise you to contact the respective local government for more information.
TRADE LICENSE FOR A COMMERCIAL BUSINESS STEPS IN THE PROCESS
STEP 1: PROCEDURE
THE APPROPRIATE SHAPE OF THE SUITABLE OFFICE.
Dhaka City
Corporation (DCC) has two forms for a commercial license depending on the type
of business. A
commercial enterprise must use the form "K". Although
the ten zone offices use the same K form, a firm must purchase the form in
their respective zone office. A
stamp and the initials of the official who sells the form are what sets it
apart from other regions. The form
costs Tk. 10
STEP 2: OBTAIN
CERTIFICATION FROM THE COMMISSIONER OF THE LOCAL PORT.
Once the form is
completed, it must be sent to the local neighborhood commissioner for
validation.
STEP 3:
COLLECTION OF LICENSES BY TK. 50
AND SUBMIT THE APPLICATION WITH SUPPORT DOCUMENTATION TO THE DCCS ZONAL OFFICE.
For form K, a
rent receipt must be provided for the facilities where the company operates or,
if owned, the receipt of payment of the municipal tax. Supporting documents
include:
• 3 copies of the
owner's PP photo
• Proof of rent
or proof of ownership of the premises
Step 4: Wait for
the License Supervisor (LS) consultation.
When submitting
the form, the LS usually visits the business entity for a visit to verify the
information provided.
STEP 5: PAY THE PRE-DETERMINED RATE AND COLLECT THE COMMERCIAL LICENSE.
Once the Auditor
General has completed the inspection, the company is asked to go to the DCC
office to pay the predetermined rate and collect their business license. The
tariff depends on the commercial category under which the application was
submitted.
STEP 6: DISPLAY
RATE
When collecting
the business license, you must also pay a registration fee. For
all types of businesses, the registration fee will pay 30% of the licensing
fee.
